WHAT IS KABBALA?
Kabbalah means “receive” in Hebrew, that refers to receiving knowledge based on Jewish spiritualism and mysticism.

Kabbalah jewelry is believed to protect from the wrath of the evil eye and is usually worn to bring happiness, health and success into life.

Kabbalah teaching dates back to the Torah. It tells us about the nature of the universe and humanity, the nature and sense of life. Since Kabbalah was originally developed on the basis of Jewish thought, its teachings were mainly based on the analyzing the meaning of events in the Torah and were passed orally from generation to generation. Only in the 13th century, Kabbalistic thoughts were got a written form in books called The Zohar, containing the mystical and spiritual teachings.

Nowadays Kabbalah has been adopted to different beliefs as a source of knowledge for attracting blessings, happiness, and protection. For this reason, Kabbalah jewelry has become fashionable and very popular , mostly chosen as a meaningful protective amulet.

Different symbols of Kabbalah have their own special powers.
According to Kabbalah, God has 72 names. They symbolize different energies that a person experiences throughout life.
Thus Alef, Lamed, Daled - protect from envy, evil spirits.
Samech Alef Lamed - gives the owner success and prosperity
Mem Hey and Shin - a symbol of healing and well-being
Kaf, Lamed and Yud - help with fertility
Hey Kuf, Mem - fight depression.

Some Kabbalah jewelry designs are inscribed in Hebrew with prayers:
Prayer Ana Bekoah - contains 42 words to bring strength and confidence in the necessary goals.
Shema - is in fact, the most important prayer in Judaism. It is a protection prayer.
The first verse of the Shema: the Lord is our God, the Lord is one. The verses that follow explain the particular ways in which that faith should be lived: Love God with all of your being, teach it to your children...
Over the years the shema yisrael meaning has always been the demonstration of faith. The prayer is also believed to have the power of reunion of the human being with the spiritual nature.
“Terebat Haderekh” - is another popular prayer to protect the owner both physically and mentally.

Symbols of Israeli Jewelry

Various symbols are often found in Kabbalah jewelries:
The fish provides protection from envy, it is also a symbol of fertility.

The Hamsa is an ancient amulet symbolizing the Hand of God. In different cultures it's recognized as a protective sign. It brings happiness, health, and good fortune.
There are two main styles of the symbol: hamsa hand with two symmetrical thumbs, or hamsa hand that is not symmetrical and shaped like actual hand.
Hamsa hand can be worn with the fingers pointing up or down, the both offer peace, prosperity, and the protection from the evil eye.

Hamsa Necklace

The growing interest to Kabbalah and mystical Judaism all over the world makes hamsa popular and used in the art including hamsa jewelry, paintings and amulets.

The wearer of the hamsa hand can wear it facing up or down and is thought to give the owner success, harmony, and also protection from the evil eye.
The word "hamsa" means five. Five represents the five books of the Torah for Jews. According to the Jewish tradition the five fingers of the hamsa remind its wearer to use their five senses to praise God.
Hamsa hand often features an eye symbol, which is a powerful talisman against the evil eye. People choose the talisman as a gift to wish hope, peace, and prosperity.

The Chai, the Hebrew word for life, is a well known symbol of Kabbalah jewelry, symbolizing life, energy and enthusiasm.

The Star of David is one more symbol associated with Judaism and the Jewish People in the whole world. A six-pointed star, the Star of David is composed of two overlaid triangles, pointing up and the other - down.
The symbol of the Jewish nation faith, which can be seen on the Israeli flag and in every synagogue.
Star of David jewelry has a double meaning; it brings luck, wealth, joy and protects the owner from evil eye. Star of David is a unique symbol known all over the world.

Star of David Pendant

In Kabbalah, the two triangles represent the relationship between man and God. The holy nature of a human being is represented by the triangle pointing up to God and God allowing holiness to flow towards us is represented by the second one. When a Star of David is worn as a jewelry symbol, it helps us to remember, we are living with the protection of God and so it is as a reminder of his presence. This also symbolizes kindness, severity, harmony, perseverance, splendor, foundation and royalty.

According to the Zohar here is what is said about Star of David, “There are three knots connecting to one another: the Holy One blessed be he, the Torah and Israel.” Since the Torah contains both exoteric and esoteric teachings (Kabbalah), the double triangle of the Star of David symbolizes the connections between the holly energy, hidden essence and the material essence.

The equilateral triangles are also a common symbol in the Middle East and North Africa. The symbol is believed to bring good luck. According to the culture the upward triangle represents female sexuality and the lower triangle - male sexuality; combined, they stand for harmony and unity.

The earliest known Star of David dates to the 6th Century BCE in the Holy Land.

Semiprecious stones
Semi-precious stones are often used in Kabbalah jewelry. They also have their own symbolism:

Turquoise - protects from negative energy and harm and brings happiness and peace.

Opal - brings healing, hope and success

Onyx - increases self-confidence.

Custom Jewish Gift

There are so many jewelry designs using Jewish symbols, to any taste. Celebrities make this fashion being even more spread. And it's good, when even if with symbolic jewelry we get a chance to think about hidden meaning of things around us and their power.

One of my customers wrote me a nice story that I would like to share. His name is Matityahu:

I have lots of family there. In fact, in 1986 I was there for a month and I went to Bethlehem and saw this cradle that Jesus was in… came outside and bought my Jewish star with a Chai inside from an Arab 50 feet away.

So I hit Christianity, Islam and Judaism witching about 20 minutes and like 50 feet apart. I thought back then that we COULD all get along like we have actually done going back in history. I still believe this, although I’m not sure that as a species we will survive unless we evolve beyond these kinds of tribal religions. But that’s just one theory of mine.

And I’m just a U of Michigan History grad and U of London and an MSW from Yeshiva/Wurzweiler School of Social Work. My OTHER dominant theory is that in the current iteration of evolution of sapiens, we will not survive, because men are dominant and men solve EVERYTHING without exception (big and small picture) with violence.

It is the language of men - it may be partly genetic because of testosterone and other hormones and it may be environmental because of how men are socialized to push down dealing with emotions. Even most sports are a sublimation of violence - most obviously football (which is straight up war) and boxing and one could say, martial arts.

There isn’t a decade on this planet where men haven’t committed massive atrocities - if we think the holocaust was a big thing - it really wasn’t if you study history. All you have to do is read about genocides on Wikidpedia. The Jewish holocaust matters to US because we’re Jews and it wasn’t that long ago and because Israel is so hammered by violence since the day it was founded But there have been MANY other genocides, some eclipsing the holocaust for sure - look at the numbers on Wikipedia of what the Japanese did. If I recall it was 50,000.000 people over time.

Fifty MILLION people. And there are - even within the very definition of genocide or preceding that definition, many, many other times and places where, unfortunately, our Holocaust doesn’t stand out.

I’m not sure what is wrong with our species- but it is a scientific fact that we ARE in the 6th ELE (extinction level event) and the only one obviously self-imposed. That’s not open for debate even. I’m not sure what the implications are, but it’s not some fringe conspiracy. The background extinction rate used to be 3,000 species a year and now it’s 30,000 or so….. And we managed to do almost all of the damage in just 100 years. A nanosecond in evolutionary time.

In short, I think you have the nicest Jewish star bracelet for men that I have ever seen on Etsy and Amazon - it’s rugged and handsome and not cheap looking.

I wish I could sell them in my store, but it’s probably not a great idea in a mixed community, even though Katonah is hyper wealthy and educated and liberal - with a LOT of Jews (it’s part of Bedford/Bedford Hills after all).
